About me

I’m Audrey Johns, Laurier Brantford’s 18 year old UX Design Major.

Don’t underestimate my experience with design. My time in Canterbury High School’s specialized visual arts program helped.

As an art history nerd, my teachers’ criticism of my visual composition echoes in my current wireframes and web layouts.
A
ll of my strengths in high school led me to UXD.

I like to use UX Design in my daily life.
As a barista I would be ecstatic to hear you tell me how you like your coffee. Yes, I’ll make your cappuccino “extra, extra dry”. You want another pump of caramel? No problem,  just keep it between us. I’ll find ways to appeal to peoples’ needs no matter what.

Beyond art and coffee, I’m always up for a trip to a concert or some video game ranting. Really, I’ll listen to anything nerdy you say.
Try me, I’m serious.

What mediums have I worked with?

I make art traditionally and digitally.
I have worked with graphite, acrylic paint, ceramic, watercolour, mixed media, photography, and a variety of printmaking.
I've practiced with zinc etching, drypoint on plexiglass, and a variety of lino print methods.

I have jumped between digital programs over the years. I've worked with Adobe Illustrator, Lightroom, and Blender. I've recently worked with Figma and Canva.
For my personal work I currently use Procreate, although I have previously adored Clip Studio Paint Pro.

Why is my art experience relevant?

Not only did being in a visual arts program improve my work visually, but it nurtured my drive to create.
I balanced my art, academics, personal life, and a job.
The daunting imposter syndrome we all felt in that program was my motivator to make every piece meaningful. It taught me to improve on my own terms and not through the comparison of my classmates.
It made me able to apply my artist mind in any medium, which has proved to be useful when learning design tools new to me.
